Rocky Horror DIY-Janet's barrettes.

Last night Zach and I went shopping to finish gathering our Rocky Horror costumes. I only needed a pink skirt so my searching was really easy.  The only element I really had trouble on was the hair clips Janet had during the beginning of the movie.

They are the weirdest barrettes and trying to find pieces to recreate them are difficult, but I think I found a good way to make them. I was going to use metal washers from the hardware store but they were way to heavy to stay on a tiny hair clips. Then last night I needed to stop by the craft store to do some returns and found the perfect supplies.

I have no idea what these little plastic rings are supposed to be used for but they make a near perfect match for Janet's barrettes.

All I did after that was take some really strong glue (Hot Glue will not work-I tried) and glued it to snap barrettes that matched my hair color.

Ok so this really wasn't much of a DIY, but I'm just hoping someone else who is struggling with making these sees this and the idea of using these bone rings helps.

They seriously do kinda look like condoms in your hair though lol.

Tell me more..tell me more!

I seriously did one of the most awesome things ever last Saturday. After some random searching on the internet I found out that a theater in Oakmont was showing Grease the sing-a-long version! I have never been to a sing-a-long but I absolutely love Grease and I was all over dressing up so it was seriously right up my alley. After dropping several heavy hints to Zach about going. he bought tickets and my mind immediately started mulling over what I would wear.

I knew I wanted to re-create Sandy's catsuit from the end of the movie. Who doesn't love Bad Girl!Sandy?! Especially after the hysterical reference Glee did to it. (In Hairography!) Zach and I ran to Goodwill to search for our outfits cause, ya know, I don't have a catsuit just waiting in my closet for these kinds of occasions. I literally found my outfit in no time. I found a black bateau neck tee, a great pair of black high waisted capris, and this fabulous tight leather belt. It was great cause I never find my costumes that easily.

We ran home, put on the Rocky Horror Glee soundtrack and started getting ready. I had so much product in my hair that night it was ridiculous. Thank goodness there were no open flames near me that night cause I seriously would have went up. Oh and my red lipstick-yowza! I never wear red lipstick but I actually really liked it.

I schlepped on my catsuit and we were off! We got stuck in some traffic on the way there cause of the Scarehouse and Route 28 construction but it was totally worth it. The theater was one of those older ones that aren't really around that much anymore. It was gorgeous inside and the movie was fantastic. Everyone was singing and having a great time. A group of little girls were behind us and they were over the moon, it was so funny.

Yeah, We're Cheeseballs...

AND! Next week they're having the midnight showing of Rocky Horror! I've never been and I seriously want to go so bad. Zach and I are of course going as Brad and Janet. This weekend we are going searching for costumes, and I need to make my Janet hair clips. Plus I need to study up on the call-backs, oh and find out what props we're allowed to bring. I really hope they let us bring squirt-guns.

My thoughts on the Glee GQ photoshoot.

I know this whole story has been all over the media lately and frankly I'm tired of hearing about, but the only reason I'm rehashing it now is because I feel a lot of the comments regarding the shoot have passed over a certain point I find important.

First of all I think the shoot is insanely sexy. It would only have been better if Cory Monteith had gone shirtless in a few of the shots. This however is where my problem exists. Here the girls play upon the typical naughty schoolgirl fetish but Cory is completely clothed. Although I understand it's a fashionable men's magazine I just wish it wasn't so blatantly misogynistic. But that's GQ and that's what this photographer is known for.

So whatever. That tiny issue is my only problem. These actors are in their mid 20's clearly adults and able to decide what kind of photo shoot they want to be apart of. Secondly the argument that they are going against the type of family show Glee is, is ridiculous. Glee has never been a show for younger kids. Yeah they sing and dance but this is no HSM. I mean in the second episode Finn "came early" while making out with Rachel (who wasn't even his girlfriend at the time). That isn't even some of the topics that makes Glee stand out as not another HSM. Um, Like A Virgin anyone?!

I will now get off my soapbox and just post some of these uber sexy shots.

Halloween ideas are taking over my brain.

I seriously love dressing up whether for Halloween or just because for that matter. That probably explains why I have so many costumes and why I'm always thinking up other Halloween/costume ideas. I know I said I was going as a gypsy and I still probably will for something but I also have a ton of other costume ideas. So here goes.

The rather offensive but still hilarious nun costume Rachel wore on the Duets episode of Glee.

I just finished the cape which was actually fairly easy. Now I just have to finish the skirt cause I already have the socks, white shirt and booties and the costume is finished. Here's to hoping I can talk Zach into dressing up as the priest.

Material Girl Madonna.
I don't know why I love this idea so much but it's just fun.

I needed to make my own petticoat/tutu for under all my other costumes and this works for the bottom skirt part so that portion of the costume was solved. I also made a giant black lace bow for my hair. I already had the bustier top, sunglasses and tights. So I just had to grab a pair of lace gloves which were on clearance at Joann's.

Glee's version of Lady Gaga's Disco Ball dress.
I loved Rachel's version of the dress. It's a bit more girly and wayy less severe than Gaga's original so it's more my style.

I found a strapless dress at Goodwill, and added the trim around the bust. I also made the front triangle pieces from cardboard and mirror tiles. I just need to find a way to connect them and attach them to the dress. My tutu will make it puffy enough, and I already bought elbow length black gloves and a pair of futuristic black sunglasses to finish off the look.

I'll post more pictures of myself once I wear the costumes but I figured this would be a good precursor to my actual costume posts.

In other news- tomorrow is pumpkin carving day! Oh how I'm loving this time of year!

Loving...Azzaro Spring '11

It's Paris Fashion Week! While I have been following all the shows and perusing tons upon tons of runway photos, I have seriously fallen in love with Azzaro's Spring 2011 collection. It's just so....pretty. The ruffles, the scalloped edges, the bow details, and the prints are all so girly and pretty. I picked out a few of my favorites but really I loved the whole collection.

Juste.....tres belle.

Gossip Girl Butterfly Wall

I thought once I finished my Paris map project I would be over my whole home decor kick. That was until I saw Gossip Girl last week. On the wall in Serena's room was this beautiful butterfly artwork.

After doing some searching i found out that it's by artist Paul Villinski and that he has a whole range of works centering around butterflies. His butterfly "wish" piece is particularly beautiful. While I most certainly do not have the money for one of his pieces, it does kind of inspire me to make create a similar DIY.

I would seriously love to create something like this, it's absolutely gorgeous.

Time for a Make-up Tutorial!

Change is good...right? Well in any case I figured I had done three hair tutorials so doing a make-up tutorial would be a nice change. After re-creating Lea Michele's hair from the Teen Choice Awards, I realized how much I really liked her eye make-up from the event as well. So last night while working on her Emmy style I decided to try her make-up from the TCA's.

Here's a close-up of her eyes.

What I loved was the bright green eyeshadow she used and how her make-up artist gave her a subtle cat eye as well. I didn't have the exact same shade of shimmery bright green eyeshadow so I ended up using a combination of three different shadows. L'oreal HiP Gunmetal, L'oreal HiP Flashy, and Ulta's Luna. (Just the green shades on the HiP duos.)

First I used a black liner on my lids, gradually making the line thicker as I got to the outer edge. For my lower line I took the eyeliner to approximately the middle of my iris and then I smudged it with my finger .

For the cat eye look I took my eye liner and extended my line along where my top lashes end. I smudged it some so it wasn't so stark of a line.

For the shadow I lightly swept my make-up brush through each of the three shadows to create a nice mix. After applying it to my lids I also smudged a little along the cat eye line, but only slightly.

Finally I curled my lashes and applied mascara to the top AND bottom lashes. I would definitley like to try this again with some fake lashes, but for a test run I wasn't going to take the time.

I really like it, and I love that it brings the hazel out in my eyes. For not being a stellar make-up user I think this was fun. I seriously love the cat-eye trend, this is definitley getting added to my make-up style.

Amanda Paul

Hair tutorial-Lea Michele's Emmy hair style.

Simple but sexy. That's what I thought of Lea Michele's hair style from the Emmy awards. You already know I loved her dress but I also really liked her hair.

I thought it was effortlessly sexy, a perfect compliment to her figure-hugging, flamenco-style dress. After checking out a few websites with some tips on how to re-create the look I decided to give it a try.

First I took the top layer of my hair and put it into three of my largest hot rollers. For the rest of my hair I just took sections and while holding the curling iron horizontally curled the sections for 15-30 seconds. After they were curled I took and pinned the wrapped up curl to my head. Once my whole head was done I started letting all the curls down and very gently separating them to give my hair some body.

Some opinions/tips about this hair-do
-I didn't put any product in my hair and I definitley know now that you need to for this hair-do. A volumizing mousse would do the trick.
-To get some more volume teasing the top layer of your hair is a must.
-Also this hair style needs hairspray cause the curls will easily fall out unless sprayed.

I think this hair style is just super sexy and with the perfect outfit I definitley plan on trying this again with the tips I listed. I'll update with any other tips once I try this style again.

Amanda
