Dolce and Gabbana inspired star earrings

I have been thinking of a way to DIY earrings similar to these for a while and I have to say I'm insanely pleased with the outcome.

Supplies-
1 7/8 x 3/16 wooden star shapes
Star rhinestones
5mm round rhinestones
small and large star sequins
black, gold, or white paint
Tacky glue
7mm gold jump rings
earring hooks
small gold chain-optional

First I started by painting the stars with two coats of black paint. You could also choose to paint them gold or white. I was afraid you would be able to see the wood grain through the paint but even looking up close you can't tell.

Then I had my boyfriend drill a small hole at the top point of the star so that I could attach the earring hook.

Then I added two jump rings and the earring hook.

After this it really becomes all about your own personal taste. I chose to use the tiny star sequins and the star rhinestones. Because the earrings twist and move on your ear you need to embellish the back and front of the star. You could also put the round rhinestones or even sequins by the yard around the sides since they are flat to give it more pizzazz.

After you have embellished them to your liking you can drill another small hole near the bottom and attach a couple strands of gold chain to make an even more dramatic earring. You could do this by adding another jump ring and just attaching the strands to it. I chose not to because I felt like these already made a big statement.

I have enough supplies that I could create a matching necklace. The more I wear my earrings and plan outfits which I can wear them with, the more I want to make the necklace.

Stay tuned, a necklace might be coming up soon!

xoxo,
Amanda
