Glee-wind: I Kissed A Girl

I liked this week's episode I really did. It wasn't an automatic favorite of mine, but it was still good and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the music used in the episode.  There was a mixed variety of tempos and styles and all of the choices were fantastic and performed wonderfully. I'm The Only One was amazing, it's a great rock song and easily one of Mark Salling's best. I thought it was so cute when he was singing to Rachel too.

Hands down my favorite song was Girls Just Want to Have Fun. We got to see a whole new side of Cory Monteith's voice and now I only want to hear more songs like this from him. It was so sexy and soulful and he sounded amazing on it. The performance was just as amazing and I can't say how happy I am that we are getting to see more and more of his amazing acting abilities, and I really feel like the writers are noticing what a talent they have with him.

Aside from the stellar music the episode just kind of fell short for me. I think certain moments seemed strange and that's why I'm not as enthusiastic as I have been for previous episodes. First thing that was strange-seeing Blaine in class?! Seriously freaked me out.

I think the whole Puck-Shelby-Quinn debacle is ridiculous. Puck having a crush on Shelby I was ok with, seeing them kiss was weird but whatever, showing them in bed together was too far. It was just really off-putting. It just went way too far.  Then right in the next scene I couldn't believe Puck was telling Quinn about it. He had just said how messed up she was and then he's telling her something that you know she is gonna find a way to make work to her advantage. Most of the time Puck seems to be the only person to get through to Quinn, and he told her twice how messed up she was in this episode. I'm really hoping that this is gonna be used as a wake-up call for her, and if so, it's gonna be a great catalyst for her to become a better person.

The thing that caught me as so strange in the episode was the enormous amount of Finn and Santana scenes we got. This was Santana's big episode of finally accepting herself and I wanted so badly to see Brittany be there to comfort her and support her but instead I feel like we got Finn in the role Brittany should have played. Although I understand the importance Finn played in Santana's coming out, I feel we got to see a lot more from her and a friend as opposed to Santana and the person she loves. Quite honestly the thing I hated the most was when Finn told Santana that their first time meant something. In 1x15 when they slept together Finn flat out adamantly said it didn't mean anything and now we have him sincerely saying it did mean something. I'm not reading into this, because I'm truly comfortable where Finchel is right now, but I just think the writer's could have worded it in such a better way that would have explained that he cares for Santana as opposed to it being misconstrued into him secretly loving her.

Although not my favorite, the episode was not without it's bright spots-

Rachel speaking about her best gay was hilarious. I love Rachel and when they aren't making her ridiculously dramatic and they actually let her be funny, I love her even more. Even though Finchel fans got the glorious The First Time episode, the majority of moments this season have been in the background. I say this every week but I love them. I love seeing Finn and Rachel happy and these moments are just too cute not to love. I absolutely loved during Girls Just Want to Have Fun when Finn looked at Rachel because it fell in sync perfectly with the lyrics he was singing. That portion of the song talks about locking away a beautiful girl and that he would never do that to her. So many people worry about Finn holding Rachel back and those few lyrics were such a little promise that that would never happen for Finchel. I really loved that subtext.

While not full of subtext, Finn's look of surprise during I Kissed a Girl was so funny. I think Finn and Rachel in the strip club next week is gonna be gold, the short bit we already got in the promo was hilarious.

Looking towards next week- I seriously couldn't believe it when Rachel got banned from Sectionals, Lea Michele played the scene wonderfully, I felt so bad for Rachel. As usual she was really misguided but again she was just trying to help Kurt out. The songs for the competition are wonderful but it's going to be so weird not hearing her on the tracks.

I also wonder how Burt's win is gonna play into the storyline or if it's going to be referenced at all after this....it is Glee ya know.

I'm so excited for next week though and I can't wait for Tuesday to get here. The episode just looks so good.

xoxo,
Amanda
