DIY Butterfly print pumps

Inspired by a pair of Manolo Blahnik's I saw in InStyle!

Supplies-
Light colored fabric pumps
Asst. Butterfly stamps-Martha Stewart has an awesome set I just love!
Asst. Fabric markers
Decoupage spray sealer
Paper towels

Start by coloring your stamp with the main color you want the butterfly to be. I used a mixture of bright but light colors so that none of the butterflies were too loud.

Once the main color is done, go ahead and use the black to color in the antennas and also outline the wings if you'd like. I alternated outlining and not, I liked the difference it made on the overall look of the shoes.

I didn't have a large enough clear stamp block, so I just used the plastic sheet that came with the stamps.

Line up where you want the stamp to go on the shoe.

Press the stamp to the shoe being sure to both follow the curves of the shoes but also make a solid impression with the stamp. This part definitely requires two hands.

Here's what the stamp looks like on the shoe. I like that the impression isn't perfect, I love the look it creates over the shoe. The slight imperfection makes it interesting. Right after I removed the stamp the ink was still somewhat wet so be extremely careful not to smear the butterfly.

In between stamping I wiped off the excess ink with a damp paper towel. By doing this I didn't have to fully wash each stamp after each use.

Continue stamping all over the shoe, changing colors and shapes to add depth. I also liked slightly overlapping the stamps.

Once your pumps are completely stamped let the shoes dry overnight before spray sealing them.

The next day go ahead and stuff plastic bags in the shoes and give them a couple coats of the spray sealer. The fabric markers are permanent but I always like to be extra sure that my DIY's are going to hold up to normal wear and tear.

Voila!

I've had this idea rolling around in my head since I saw a pair of similar Manolo's in March's InStyle. When I decided to finally start the project, I had some trouble finding the perfect white pumps and the exact marker colors I wanted. Every so often I have projects where I struggle to find the perfect supplies but the final project is perfection.

The pumps are serious perfection. Their girly and absolutely perfect for spring. With a solid sundress these are going to make my look pop!

xoxo,
Amanda
